Plasma Applications on Car Dashboards

Automotive interior parts are usually made of plastic materials such as polypropylene (PP), which have weak surface dispersion and poor bonding properties. 

This makes it difficult for covering materials (such as leather) to adhere firmly to the interior parts without treatment, and it is easy to debond and crack under the sun.


In particular, the surface treatment of the automotive dashboard is more difficult because it contains multiple curved surfaces, protrusions and grooves and other complex structures.


The traditional treatment method is to use flame method to increase the surface energy, but because of its low production capacity and high flame temperature, 

it is easy to cause problems such as material surface shape, so automobile manufacturers prefer surface treatment methods that are efficient and less likely to cause material damage.

Plasma technology not only improves surface energy, but also conforms to the trend of environmental protection and efficient production. It is introduced into production by more and more automobile manufacturers as an important surface treatment technology.

Plasma treatment is favored by major automobile manufacturers due to its advantages such as environmental protection, high efficiency, uniform treatment effect and ability to process complex shapes. Especially in terms of capacity improvement, plasma surface treatment has more advantages.


The flame method can only process 1pcs at a time, while the plasma method can process at least 8pcs at a time, which can greatly improve production efficiency and increase production capacity, thereby shortening the production cycle and meeting the needs of efficient production.

According to the customer's acceptance criteria, the plasma-treated car dashboard did not show any debonding or warping after wrapping. At the same time, the pull-out force test also met the industry standards.
